About dynamic DNS service
Why do I need this?
If you have a dynamic IP address which changes periodically (monthly, weekly or even daily). This can make it difficult or impossible to connect to services at home, like remote desktop or FTP.
Using an update client allows you to make sure you can always reach your home network, because it makes sure that your hostname is always up-to-date with the latest IP address. The update client runs in the background, so once you have it properly configured you don’t have to worry about it; you only need to remember your hostname to reach your files and services.
What is an update client?
The update client periodically checks your network’s IP address; if it sees that your IP address has changed, it sends the new IP address to your hostname in your account. An update client is a computer application or a feature in your router that keeps your hostname’s IP address up-to-date.
Which update clients can I use?
You can use any of your preffered client which supports dyndns2 protocol
to update hostnames. You can either use the update client in your router or download a software client to run on your computer.
Configuration Examples
ddclient
# /etc/ddclient.conf
protocol=dyndns2
use=web, web=ipinfo.io/ip
ssl=yes
server=dynip.space
login=put-login-here
password=put-token-here
put-hostname-here
Synology
Open «Control Panel» → «External Access» → «Customize» Use any name for the «Service Provider» field and this one as the «Query URL»:
http://dynip.space/nic/update?hostname=__HOSTNAME__&myip=__MYIP__
Tap «Add» and fill fields with your credential. Then «OK» to update hostname IP.
If you want to use your own domain
Create CNAME record at your domain registrar
Create CNAME
record with the name that you want to use and point it to your hostname.dynip.space
. This can be done into DNS management section in the domain registrar control panel. Thats all, no need to transfer or delegate domain to someone.
